Introduction of Speakers Professor Svilen P. Simeonov graduated from Sofia University in 2004 and joined the Institute of Organic Chemistry with Centre of Phytochemistry, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, as a research fellow. In 2010 he moved to the University of Lisbon and received his Ph.D. in 2014 under the supervision of Prof. Carlos A. M. Afonso. Afterward, he returned to Sofia and currently holds a professor position at the Institute of Organic Chemistry with Centre of Phytochemistry. Svilen Simeonov co-authored 48 research paper and several book chapters that has been cited over 2300 times. In 2015 he received UNESCO/PhosAgro/IUPAC Green Chemistry for Life award for leading young researchers and more recently acad. “Bogdan Kurtev” award for achievements in organic chemistry. His research interests are mainly focused on green chemistry methodologies, flow chemistry, valorization of natural resources, and asymmetric catalysis.
Associate Professor Georgi Dobrikov obtained his MSc in Chemistry from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" - Faculty of Chemistry in 1998. In 1998-1999 he worked as researcher in Institute of Polymers, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. In 1999-2001 he worked as chemist in National Center of Public Health and Analyses (Sofia, Bulgaria). He defended his PhD thesis in 2007 at Institute of Organic Chemistry with Centre of Phytochemistry, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IOCCP-BAS), focusing on the design and synthesis of new chiral compounds and ferrocene chemistry. Since 2007 he worked at IOCCP-BAS at different positions, as follows: 2007-2016 (prof. assistant); 2016-present (associate professor). In 2023 he defended DSc degree at IOCCP-BAS. His research interests include the design, synthesis, purification and characterization (by NMR and other methods) of chiral compounds, ferrocene derivatives, bioactive compounds (antibacterial, anticancer and antiviral), new compounds with interesting photophysical properties. Dr. Dobrikov has co-authored 56 publications (Scopus ID: 6507537962).
