8:30 am - 9:00 am            Arrive at CCAT and introduction

9:00 am - 10:00 am         DuPont presentations and Q&A

10:00 am - 12:00 am       Discussions about drone trending and impact to China pesticide market

12: 00 am - 12: 30 am     CCAT facility tour

adjourn at 12:30 am

Titles of the presentations

Rynaxypyr-A Gift From God  by Pan Yafei (Ph D in entomology. Over 21 years served in DuPont China with experience in R&D, marketing and six sigma. R&D leader for Greater China, HSB DuPont.)

Using drone technology to deliver crop protection products: A perspective from an agricultural chemical company by Xuan Li. (PhD in Biological System Engineering. Research Investigator at DuPont Crop Protection Stine research center, focusing on global R&D for product application technology.)

Objectives

Overall objective: Conduct technical discussion with CCAT for the insight about the trend of drone technology and the outlook about its impact to China pesticide market. Establish connection with Stine research center and Yafei Pan, DuPont China technical leader, for potential collaborations.  Would like to watch actual field applications using a drone sprayer.

Possible topics for our discussion:

·         What are the research projects about drone sprayer and drone formulation done by CCAT

·         Discuss on market trend, outlook and bottleneck of drone spray technology in China market

·         Any collaborative work/partnership with manufactures/drone industry/ organizations

·         Any plan/advance for developing UAV standards, national certification, or industrial application guidance

·         Any study/expectations/specific requirements for drone/ULV formulation?

·         Learn more on a typical process for chemical transfer and handling, tank loading/unloading, cleaning etc. involved in drone applications

Using UAV technology to deliver crop protection products: A perspective from DuPont Crop Protection

Xuan Li, Edward B Lang, John T Andaloro

DuPont Stine Research Center, 1090 Elkton Road, Newark, Delaware 19711, USA

The use of small unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for agricultural crop protection is growing rapidly in China, becoming a high efficiency and more accurate alternative to the conventional pesticide application methods using human-operated knapsack and other hand-held sprayers. In recent years, DuPont Rynaxypyr® has been applied to rice through this evolving UAS-based application technology that integrates different hydraulic disperse systems into various types of UAS for pest control in China rice. Sound understandings of the product chemical properties and biological attributes as well as insect behaviors could optimize the product delivery using drones, and thus ensure superior crop protection with desired field efficacy. Special considerations from chemical and biological perspectives are discussed in this presentation, including the understanding of insect pest control related to different application technologies, impact of application quality on insecticide resistance, and design interactions between UAS and liquid disperse systems. The use of drones for crop protection can be a very significant improvement over current spray methods but only after a coordinated effort to optimize and standardize application parameters related to key drone models. National certification also seems to be a necessary requirement to ensure equipment and procedural quality within the industry. This presentation is expected to open up communications and collaborative efforts through a cross-disciplinary approach involving the crop protection industry that will result in more effective use of pest control products.
